| AGRONA.
The name of a Celtic goddess of
war. It has been suggested that her name may be proto-Celtic, a form
of the river Aeron in Wales, and means
"carnage." There is a masculine Illyrian Agron,
which may be cognate with Hebrew Akron.
In his book The
Hittites, John Campbell tells us that Agron is the same as Hebrew Akron/Ekron,
which means "eradication; a rooting out." (Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological, &
Ecclesiastical Literature,
Strong, 1894).
