'AIDAH (عايدة). Arab-Palestinian
name, which some think may be the same as Hebrew Adah
("ornament"). But it is included in a list of Palestinian
names derived from circumstances of birth, and is said to mean "born
during a feast." (Quarterly Statement for 1905, Palestine
Exploration Fund).
'Aidah, too, one of the
female names, is like that of Adah, another of Esau's wives. Most of the
names, including even those which are found in the Old Testament, are
common to the Fellahin of Wadi Musa and the Arabs. (Calcutta Review,
v.9, 1848).
