| AMENT. The
feminine form of the divine name Amen
(q.v.), meaning "the
hidden." Ament, a Theban goddess. She was a form
of the goddess Maut, the wife of Amen Ra, and was represented as wearing
the sacred red crown. Ament, the Egyptian name for the city
and nome in Lower Egypt, which was called by the Greeks the Lybian.
It was sacred to the worship of the goddess Hathor, "the Lady of
