Feminine
form of Greek Anastasios,
meaning "of the Resurrection," i.e. having the elements of the
Resurrection within her. The feminine form was as early and as
frequent as the masculine. Borne by two virgin martyrs.
England once used the name more than at present, and then Anglicized it
into Anstace. (History of
