ANSTACE.
British feminine form of Latin Anastasius
(q.v.), meaning "of the Resurrection." (History of Christian Names,
Yonge, 1884).
Murial Anstace Theodore, daughter of Rev. Laurence
Farrall, was the wife of Welsh artist and lithographer Gerald Spencer
Pryse (d. 1956). (Wiki)
Anstace is a British feminine of Latin Anastasius,
contracted from Anastasia, meaning "rising again," a
"resurrection," and the name is often given to babies who happen
to be born at Easter.
In these Islands the feminine forms of the name
always found more favour than the masculine, and in Ireland it is
especially popular, where it has the pet diminutive "Anty."
Two virgin martyrs have added dignity to the
name, and there have been four St. Anatasiuses. The Anniversary of
no less than three of these is celebrated on April 21st, whilst the fourth
falls on April 27th. (Girls' Christian Names, Swan, 1905).
