ARIANA.
In Greek Αρειανή. An old name
for Iran (Persia), meaning "tiller of the
soil." (Library of Universal Knowledge, Clare, v.1, 1898).
See Aryana. Moody derives

ARIANA.
The same as Clare's Ariana above. It is actually the Latin form of Greek
'Αρειανή (Persia), and might more
properly be rendered "Persian," or "Aryan." But
most authors make it a form or corruption of Greek Ariadne
(q.v.), meaning "the exceeding holy." (A New School
Dictionary of the English Language, Worcester, 1908). They are
probably all cognate, including the Welsh. The French have Ariane.
Ariana Nozeman
