Abbon, (in Latin Abbo
Cernuus, "Abbon the bent or bowed down,") a learned French
monk, who flourished about 900. He wrote a Latin poem on the siege
of Paris by the Northmen, (A.D. 885-6.) Abbon of Fleury,
(in Latin, Abbo Floriacensis,) an eminent ecclesiastic of the tenth
century, born near Orleans in France. He was one of the most
learned men of his age, and after he was elected Abbot of Fleury showed
himself a patron of learning. He died in 1004. (Universal
