ABDUL-LATIF (عبد اللطيف).  Also written Abd-ul-Latif and Abdallatif.  Arabic name meaning "servant of the genteel," from Abdul "servant of the" and Latif "genteel" or "gracious."  This was the name of a native of Qazwin who was an author of a history of Persia, written in the middle of the 16th century. (An Oriental Biographical Dictionary, Beale, 1894)
