name meaning "servant of the horses." The sun-worship of the
Phoenicians (see Abed-Shemesh)
seems to have included a dedication to
the sun-god of chariots and horses, to which a quasi-divine character
attached, so that certain persons were from their birth consecrated to the
sacred horses, and given by their parents the name of Abed-Susim... (The Religions
