| ABIYATEH. The
son of Tehar.
An Arabian officer, to whom, together with his brother Aimu, Vaiteh, king
of Arabia, committed the charge of his army sent to assist in the
rebellion of Saulmugina against Assurbanipal. He materially aided in
the revolt of Babylon, but was starved into submission, and surrendered
himself to Assurbanipal. In the meantime, Vaiteh having been
conquered, a second prince of the same name took the throne of Arabia; and
Abiyateh, breaking his allegiance, accepted a share of the kingdom, and
aided Vaiteh II. to fight against Assyria. After a prolonged
warfare, he was a second time defeated by Assurbanipal, and sent prisoner
to Assyria, where he was flayed alive. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
