AFALLACH.  Variant spelling of Welsh Afallech (q.v.), meaning "orchard."  In Arthurian legend, this is the name of the king of Avalon.  Also see Avalloc, Avallach, and Evelake.

Afallach, s. f. an orchard: an enclosure devoted to the culture of fruit-trees, especially the apple, the pear, the plum, and the cherry: hence Ynys Wydrin—Glastonbury, was originally called Ynys Afallach and Ynys Afallon.  Afallach also is a proper name of men.—Afallon, perllan; afaleule; llwyn plan o goed ffrwyth.
