AHUNI. Early
Babylonian personal name meaning "our brother."
(Early Babylonian Personal Names, Ranke, 1905). Ahuni, the son
of Adini, and king of Lahlahte and of the territory of Bit Adini, in
Mesopotamia. He submitted himself and his country to Assurnazirpal,
king of Assyria; but after his death rebelled, and vainly attempted to
resist the arms of Shalmaneser II., by whom he and his army were utterly
defeated after several battles, and all his allies were dispersed. (An
Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
... "In the second year, I
went up to the city of Tel Barasba, and occupied the cities of Ahuni, son
of Hateni. I shut him up in his city; I then crossed the Euphrates,
and occupied the cities of Dabagu and Abarta belonging to the Sheta,
together with the cities which were dependent on them..." (Home
Friend, vol.1, 1852)
