AL.  Or El, "God."  The name of the supreme deity of the ancient Nabatheans.  He was the universal deity of Palestine and Phoenicia. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).

AL (ال).  Arabic definitive article, found in many names, (example: Abd-al-Malik), meaning "the." (The American Cyclopaedia, Ripley, v.1, 1873)

AL.  Short form of English Albert ("nobly bright"), and other names beginning with Al-.
