ALAPI.  The Assyrian name of the Winged Human-headed bulls, which were used to guard the entrances of the palaces, and beings similar to which were believed to have had real existence at the mythical time of Izdubar.  They were also called Kirubi, whence the cherubim of Hebrew writers. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
