Greek form of Latin Ambrosius,
derived from the word ambrosios, meaning "ever-living, immortal."
It was
reserved for Christianity to proclaim the true ambrosia, the veritable
food of Paradise, and thus it was that Ambrosios became a chosen
name, borne in especial by that great Archbishop of Milan, who spent one
