| AMSET. One
of the seven great spirits in the Ritual of the Dead. Amset, the
Carpenter, a son of Osiris, and also one of the four genii of the dead who
were offered by the deceased to make an atonement for his sins, and to
whose care the different viscera of the embalmed body were
committed. He is generally represented in the form of an ovoid vase
with a human head as a cover; on the vase is often a prayer to the goddess
Isis on behalf of the deceased. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
