ANASTASIUS.
Latin form of Greek Anastasios,
meaning "of the Resurrection."
Emperor Anastasius I (491-518),
said to have been led by Photinus, a deacon of Thessalonica, into the
heresy of Acacius, bishop of Constantinople (d. 488), who denied the
divine origin of Christ, holding that he was naturally begotten and
conceived in the same way as the rest of mankind. (A Dictionary of
Proper Names and Notable Matters in the Works of Dante, Toynbee,
1898)
