APOLLON (Ἀπόλλων).  Greek form of Roman Apollo, which, according to Æschylus, comes from ἀπόλλυμι, to destroy, hence "the destroyer." (History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884).  In mythology, this is the name of a god of music, and the sun.  His parents are Zeus and Leto, and he is twin brother to Artemis, goddess of the hunt and moon.
