Hindu mythology another name of the evil spirits who were called Asvarna,
which see.

ASSUR. The
great Deity of the Assyrians, the King and Father of the gods, and
therefore not included in the mythological genealogies, of the
Assyrians. He was called "The God who created Himself,"
and his chief temple was dedicated to Sadimatati, or the "Mountain of
the World."
