ATHANAREIKS.  Early Gothic.  This name appears in Rackus's book. (Guthones, Rackus, 1929).  The first element could be an altered form of athala "noble," or, as Grimm long ago suggested, from ažna- "year" (see Athanagild); the second is ric/reiks, "prince, ruler."
