| AZECH AMEN. A
king of Ethiopia, probably of the ancient royal house of Seti I., which
had long maintained a precarious dignity at Napata in Southern
Egypt. He invaded and conquered Egypt in the reign of Uaserken I.,
and was proceeding further to conquer Palestine also, when he was defeated
on the borders of Judah by King Asa, who at Zephath utterly routed his
army, and by compelling him to retreat into Ethiopia, freed Egypt from his
dominion also. No further particulars of his reign are known. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
