AZIZ (עַזִּיז).  A. J. Kolatch has this name in his Complete Dictionary of English and Hebrew First Names, with the meaning "strength."  It is probably a variant form of biblical Azaz (q.v.).

    AZIZ.  "The Powerful."  In ancient Nabathean mythology, a deity whose character and attributes are uncertain. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).

AZIZ (عزيز).  Arabic name meaning "beloved,, from the vocabulary word aziz (esteemed, estimable). (An English and Arabic Dictionary, Catafago, 1873)
