| ABIA (Αβία). f.
From Greek ἄβιος, meaning
"poor, without food." In
mythology, this is the name of
the nurse of Hyllus, eldest son of Hercules. (A New Classical
Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography, &c., Anthon, 1895)
ABIA (Ἀβιά). m.
Greek form
of Hebrew Abhiyah, meaning
"whose father is Jehovah." In the bible, this is the spelling in

the spelling in Luke i. 5—A.V.—of Abijah of 1 Chron. xxiv. 10, whose
course was the eighth of the 24 into which the priests were ultimately
arranged. (The Sunday School Teacher's Bible Manual, Hunter, 1894)
