ARALU.  A name for the nether-world in Babylonian-Assyrian religion.  It is supposed to be a cave underneath the earth to which all the dead went.  It seems also to be called "house of Aralu."  In later usage it is also the name of the mountain within which the nether-world (Aralu itself) lay. (An Encyclopedia of Religions, Canney, 1921)
