ATA.  UnisexAta, an Egyptian lady, who was perhaps the daughter of Sutenrekh-Ata a king of the Vth dynasty.  Ata, a king of the Ist dynasty, of whom nothing else is known except that his name occurs on the second Table of Abydos. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).  Probably a form of At.

ATA.  m.  Turkish name meaning "father."

"... Latin, pater.  Swedish and Danish, fadder, English father, Persic, phader, French, petre, now written pere, Gothic, atta, German, tad—Athair," the compiler remarks, "is derived from the Celtic at, father; whence are derived the Tartar and the Turkish ata, father..." (Literary Gazette, 1826)
