ATIYA (عطيّة). Unisex.
Egyptian-Arabic name, derived from the vocabulary word aṭiya, meaning "gift,
giving." (The Spoken Arabic of Egypt, Willmore, 1905)
... In 1057 (449) Tamal again
abandoned Aleppo to Egypt, whilst his brother Aṭiya
occupied -Rahba. This fresh Fatimid rule was terminated in 1060
(452) by the conquest of the city by Rashid-al-dawla, son of
Shibl-al-dawla; but he was expelled in the following year by his uncle
Mu'izz-al-dawla, who died in 454, and bequeathed Aleppo to his brother Aṭiya.
(The Mohammedan Dynasties, Lane-Poole, 1894).
