BETHA.  Pet form of Swiss Elsbeth (q.v.), meaning "God's oath." (History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884).

BETHA.  An old hereditary English name, and the Latinism of Celtic Begga (q.v.), meaning "life." (Ibid., Yonge, 1884).

    To Beath, life, may be referred Betha, an old hereditary English name, and the Latinism of Bega or Begga, for a saint, called otherwise Hien or Hayne.  She was of Irish birth;... (Ibid., Yonge, 1884).
