| BAKENRANF. A
chief priest or Sam and governor of a district in the reign of
Psametik I. of the XXVIth dynasty. His tomb at Sakkarah is one of
the most beautiful and important in existence for its magical and
liturgical texts. Bakenranf, a king of Egypt of the XXIVth
dynasty. He was the son of Tafnekht, or Thnephactus. He was a
wise and brave but unfortunate king; and several miracles, such as the
prophecy of a monstrous double ram, are said to have happened in his
reign. He was conquered by Sabako, king of the Ethiopians, who burnt
him alive after he had reigned six years. He was the Bocchoris
