| BAR. Another
name of the Assyrian deity Ninip.
He was called also Adar
and Ussur
by the early Assyriologists. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
BAR (בַּר). An
element found in many Aramaic names, meaning "son."
1. The
prefix bar. It is true that this is an Aramaic word for son; but
since it occurs in Proverbs (xxxi. 2), a work which, even on the most
extravagant view of its compilation, is Hebrew, and not Chaldee, no
inference as to the Palestinian dialect can fairly be drawn from its
use. (Expository Times, v.2, 1891)
