BATA. The
name of the younger brother who was the victim of falsehood and jealousy
in the ancient Egyptian romance called the "Tale of the Two
Brothers," which was written in the reign of Rameses II. His
name is sometimes read Satau. See Anpu,
the elder brother.
Bata, a great mystical serpent who is
called "The Soul of the Earth," in the LXXXVIIth chapter of the
Ritual of the Dead. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
