CHIAMAKA. A
variant form of African Igbo Chiemeka
(q.v.), meaning "God is noble," or "the
spirit
knows." The first part is Chi "God" or
"guardian spirit." (Journal of the Anthropological
Institute of Great Britain and Ireland, v.36, 1906) The second appears to come from mača/maka "to know well," a word very similar in
meaning to the root of our own English word "noble," from Latin gnō,
base of nōscere (i.e. gnōscere),
