Origin of the name CLAUDA.
Etymology of the name CLAUDA.
Meaning of the baby name CLAUDA.

CLAUDA.  A feminine form of Latin Claudus (q.v.), meaning "lame."  The name of an island mentioned in the bible.  See Hunter's note below.

She had created his opportunity for him and Hutchinson took instant advantage of it.
"They are of grave importance to me, Mrs. Carson.  I hope, even after you leave here, you will permit me to continue my acquaintance with yourself—and, through it—with Miss Clauda."
He rose as Clauda came down the piazza. (His Worldly Goods, Tuttle, 1912)

CLAUDA. [Greek Klaude].  A small island off the south-west of Candia or Crete.  Paul's ship ran under its lee just after she was caught by the Euroclydon.  The R.V. relegates Clauda to the margin, and inserts in its stead Cauda. (Acts xxvii. 16—A.V. and R.V.).  The Greeks still call it Clauda-nesa (Clauda island) or Gaudanesi, which the Italians have corrupted into Gozzo. (The Sunday School Teacher's Bible Manual, Hunter, 1894)
