CLAUDA. [Greek Klaude].  A small island off the south-west of Candia or Crete.  Paul's ship ran under its lee just after she was caught by the Euroclydon.  The R.V. relegates Clauda to the margin, and inserts in its stead Cauda. (Acts xxvii. 16—A.V. and R.V.).  The Greeks still call it Clauda-nesa (Clauda island) or Gaudanesi, which the Italians have corrupted into Gozzo.
