CADWALADR. Welsh
name, composed of cad "battle; to defend" and gwaladr
"lord," hence "battle-lord." The 108th and last
Loegrian King of the Britains, son of Cadwallon.
There are several churches in Wales dedicated to him, which is a strong
proof of his being sainted by the Church of Rome, as our British history
mentions. (Archaeologia Cambrensis, v.5, 1874)
LIII. The
three Fatal Slaps with the Hand of the Isle of Britain: the Slap of the
Matholwch the Gwyddelian on Bronwen, the daughter of Llyr; and the Slap
given by Gwenhwyvach to Gwenhwyvar, which occasioned the battle of
Camlan; and the Slap given by Golyddan the Bard to Cadwaladr, the
Blessed. (The Cambro-Briton, v.2, 1821)
