Origin of the name CERDIC.
Etymology of the name CERDIC.
Meaning of the baby name CERDIC.

CERDIC.  An Anglicized form of Welsh Caradoc (q.v.), meaning "beloved."  Cedric is a transposed form.  Cerdic was the name of the first king of Wessex (519), and was a highly honored name among the English. (Great Events of Great Britain, Neil, 1866).  Usage: America, England, Wales.

... But whence the name Cerdic?  I can suggest no other etymology than from her-teoche, which will translate both "war leader" and "renowned leader."  Conf. the German her-zog.óR. S. Charnock (Miscellanea Genealogica et Heraldica, Howard, v.1, 1874)

... the mythical character of the early history of Wessex, whose first two kings, mentioned in the Chronicle,20 bear, as Mr. Howorth shows, Welsh and not English names.
Cerdic and CynricCerdic is Caradoc; Cynric means "mountain head" in Welsh. (The Numismatic Chronicle, v.19, 1879)
