CNUD.  English.  A form of Anglo-Saxon Canute (q.v.), from Latin Canutus (q.v.), meaning "knot" or "hill." (History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884).  Other forms include Cnut, Knud, Knut, Knute, Knútr, and Knútur.

    From the death of Owen to the reign of Cnud, the son of Owen, 27 years.  A.D. 1004.  From Cnud to the battle of Machawy, when Gruffudd, the son of Llywelyn, was victorious, and the bishop of the English was slain, 42 years.  A.D. 1046. (Cambrian Register for the Year 1796, v.2, 1799).
