CONSTANS.  A contraction of Latin Constantinus (q.v.), meaning "constant."  (History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884).   This was the name of the eldest son of the Roman usurper Constantine III.  Flavius Julius Constans Augustus (d. 350), was a Roman Emperor.  Also spelled Konstans.
