DEBORAH. Biblical.
[Hebrew Debhorah =
"a bee"].
Deborah Kerr, a Scottish-born American
actress. Deborah Meaden, a British businesswoman. Deborah
Brown, an acclaimed Irish sculptor. (Wiki)
(1)
Rebekah's nurse, who accompanied her from Mesopotamia, and, dying, was
buried beneath Bethel, under an oak, called in consequence
Allon-bachuth = "oak of weeping" (Gen. xxiv. 59; xxxv. 8).
(2) A prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth. She
lived under a palm-tree, called after her name, between Ramah and
Bethel, in Mount Ephraim, and there was a "judge" or ruler
of the Israelites. It was she who summoned Barak to undertake
the contest with Sisera, and, at her request, accompanied him to the
rendezvous of his army, if not even to the field of battle (Judg. iv.
4-14). Afterwards she joined with Barak in singing a song of
triumph for victory, which was probably of her rather than of his
composition (v. 1-31). (The Sunday School Teacher's Bible Manual,
Hunter, 1894).
