| DAYAN-ASSUR. "Assur
is Judge." A great general or Tartan in the army of Shalmaneser
II. He was sent against Seduri, king of Armenia, whom he defeated;
after which he subjugated the tribes of Patesia, and two years later
entered the kingdom of Minni, defeating the king Udaki, and the next year,
passing into Persia, conquered the various tribes bordering upon
Assyria. He returned thruogh Halman and Simisi, and came back to
Assyria just upon the close of the life of Shalmaneser.
