Egyptian
form of Greek Thoth
(q.v.), the name of the local god of Chmunu (Greek Hermopolis), derived the same
word which is said to mean "ibis." He is usually
represented in the form of, or with the head of, an ibis, and was
originally a moon-god. He was secretary of the company of gods,
acting as the judge of divinities and men. (Mythology of All Races,
