DITMER.  Modern form of German Dietmar (q.v.), meaning "people's fame," from Teutonic şeud "people" and mari "famous."  Also spelled Dittmer. (Surname Book and Racial History, Gates, 1918).  A Ditmer van Bukow is mentioned in Otto Francke's book Das Verfestungsbuch der Stadt Stralsund.
