form of Greek Demetrios
(q.v.), meaning "of Demeter."
Anitchkov, or Anitchkof, (Dmitri
S.,) a Russian philosopher and mathematician, born in or before
1740. He published several works, one of which was publicly burnt
because a friend to whom he had lent it added some heretical or
skeptical opinions. Died in 1788. (Universal Pronouncing
