EIRENE (Εἰρήνη).
Greek name meaning "messenger of peace."
Eirene
Lloyd White, Baroness White (d. 1999), was a British journalist and Labour
politician. (Wiki)
EIRENE. A Greco-Egyptian lady, the daughter of Ptolemy. She was a
priestess of the goddess Arsinoe Philopater, at Memphis, in the reign of
Ptolemy V. (An Archaic Dictionary, Cooper, 1876).
Eirene, of which Irene
is the Latin form: Eirene was one of the Horae and the Greek
goddess of peace. She was worshipped as the goddess of wealth, and
she is accordingly represented in art with Plutus in her arms: her
other attributes are the cornucopia, an olive branch, the staff of
Hermes, and ears of corn in her hair and hand. (Girls' Christian
Names, Swan, 1905).
