Etymology of the name ETTARRE.
Meaning of the baby name ETTARRE.

ETTARRE.  Arthurian.  Tennyson's name for Malory's Ettard (q.v.), the unsympathetic lover of Pelleas, perhaps of Teutonic origin, meaning "the hard one."

Pelleas and Ettarre (1870)—the sinless youth, who cherishing a maiden passion for a maid and finding her false, goes mad at the discovery of sin.  Tennyson introduces him as the happiest in the happy throng at the jousts at Carleon.  For the lady Ettarre has accepted his love and she is beautiful and as pure as Guinevere and Guinevere as pure as heaven and every lady spotless and every knight true and, under God, the god-like Arthur ruled the world.  Soon Ettarre changes.  She wearies of his very innocence.  Pelleas, hard to be undeceived, trusts Sir Gawain when that gay knight offers to win back Ettarre's love for him.  Gawain proves unfaithful and Pelleas discovers his unfaithfulness and the unworthiness of Ettarre. (Heroes and Heroines of Fiction, Walsh, 1914)
