EGLAF.  Old English name, cognate with Old Norse Eileifr (q.v.), meaning "ever-heir" or, "ever-relic." (The Crawford Collection of Early Charters and Documents Now in the Bodleian, Napier-Stevenson, 1895)

The Battle at the Helga.  This battle is not mentioned in the Abingdon and Worcester Chronicles.  Peterborough, followed by Canterbury, places it in 1025.  No enemies but Swedes are spoken of, and their commanders are called (by the English) Ulf and Eglaf... (The History of the Norman Conquest of England, Freeman, v.1, 1877)
