According to the account of Grotius, the fifth of the Visigothic princes who reigned in Spain, changed his name of Theodoric to Evaric or Euric, which signified legislator.  Posterity was able to ratify the title, and Euric himself deserved it well, for he was the first to draw up in writing the various customs which prevailed among the Visigoths, and to give them the force of law...
