Etymology of the name FENICE.
Meaning of the baby name FENICE.

FENICE.  Arthurian legend name of a queen.  It is a French form of "phoenix." (Cook's Tourist's Handbook for Northern Italy, 1881)

    Chrétien, apparently, had two notions to exploit in the second part of Cligès (c. 1155)—one, to present a plot from the East which should exhibit a heroine of innocent intrigue; the other, to put forward this heroine, Fenice, as willing for anything except the reputation of an Iseult.  She asseverates:

"Miauz voldroie estre desmanbree
Que de nos deus fust remanbree
L'amors d'Iscut et de Tristan.
Ceste amors ne fu pas resnable;
Mes la moie est toz jorz estable,
Ne de mon cors ne de mon cuer
N'iert feite parie a nul fuer.
Ja voir mes cors n'iert garceniers,
Ja n'i avra dens parceniers.

    Thessala, the old nurse, compounds a drug which, being administered to the Emperor Alis after his marriage to Fenice, makes him a husband only in name. Modern Language Notes, v.21, 1906).
