FREYJA.  Norse.  The Teutonic Venus (Aphrodite), goddess of love, meaning "lover," from Gothic frijon ("to love").  Also see Frea, Holla, Holda, Frigga, and the masculine Freyr.

    Freyja.  (Scand. Myth.)  The goddess of love, beauty, pleasure, and fecundity.  She was the sister of Frey, and the wife of Odur, who abandoned her on her loss of youth and beauty, and was changed into a statue by Odin, as a punishment.  [Written also Freyia and Freya.] (A Dictionary of the Noted Names of Fiction, Wheeler, 1889)
