GERVASIUS.  Latin form of Norman French Gervais (q.v.), meaning "war courageous."

    Sts. Gervasius and Protasius were martyrs disinterred by St. Ambrose, at Milan.  The name is therefore probably from a classical source, unless it was originally that of a Teutonic slave. (History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884).
