HATOON.
Nestorian. Perhaps a contracted form of Haltoon
(q.v.), a form of Armenian Altoon
(q.v.), meaning "gold." (Little Children in Eden,
Wheeler, 1876)
This year we
have sent out our first "sweet girl graduates," Tegheghe
(Armenian) and Hatoon (Nestorian). These girls have by no means
completed the course of study, which we have only recently arranged; but
having reached the advanced ages of fifteen and sixteen, and as the
younger one expects to be married this summer, we can keep them no
