HAKENA.  Old English.  A name recorded in Domesday.  It may be a variant form of Old Norse Haaken (q.v.), meaning "high kin," from haa "high" and kyn "kin." (History of Christian Names, Yonge, 1884).  Apparently, it was also a place name; see the poem below.  And see Haagan, Hakon, and Kaco.

It befel in Totenham on a dere day,
Ther was mad a shurtyng be the hy-way:
