HAKENA. Old
English. A name recorded in
Domesday. It may be a
variant form of Old Norse Haaken
(q.v.), meaning "high kin," from haa "high" and kyn
"kin." (History of Christian Names, Yonge,
1884). Apparently, it was also a place name; see the poem
below. And see
Haagan, Hakon,
and Kaco.

1631, by W. Bedwell, Rector of Tottenham, from a MS. lent to him by his
friend George Wither.
